❄️ Snow Queen Pothos (Epipremnum aureum ‘Snow Queen’)

❄️ Snow Queen Pothos (Epipremnum aureum ‘Snow Queen’)

The Snow Queen Pothos is the regal, variegated cousin of the classic Golden Pothos, featuring stunning marbled white and green foliage. Each leaf looks hand-painted, making it one of the most striking pothos varieties to display in kokedama form. Though slower-growing due to its heavy variegation, it rewards patient caretakers with a bright, elegant presence that lights up any room.

☀️ Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its crisp white marbling.
  • Lower light causes the white portions to turn green as the plant compensates for photosynthesis.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the lighter areas of the leaves.
  • Best placement: near an east or west window filtered through a sheer curtain.

💧 Watering in Kokedama

  • Water when the moss feels light, pale, or dry to the touch, typically every 7–10 days.
  • Use about 1 cup of water, allowing it to soak evenly through the moss ball.
  • Rotate during watering to hydrate all sides.
  • Mist 1–2 times per week to maintain humidity and keep the moss vibrant.
  • Avoid leaving the moss soggy; Snow Queens are more prone to root rot than darker varieties.

💡 Tip: Watch for droopy or curling leaves💧they’ll perk back up once rehydrated, a clear sign it’s time for a drink.

🌿 Feeding

  • Feed monthly during spring and summer with a ¼-strength balanced fertilizer.
  • Skip feeding in fall and winter while growth slows.
  • Overfeeding can yellow the white variegation, so less is more with this variety.

🌡 Temperature & Humidity

  • Thrives in 65–85 °F (18–29 °C) and enjoys moderate to high humidity (50–70%).
  • Handles normal household air but appreciates nearby tropicals or a small humidifier.
  • Keep away from heating vents and sudden drafts to avoid leaf curl or spotting.

✂️ Maintenance & Growth

  • Naturally slower-growing than Golden or Neon Pothos due to less chlorophyll.
  • Trim leggy vines to encourage fullness and redirect energy to new growth.
  • Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to restore the white sheen.
  • Rotate the kokedama occasionally for even light exposure.
  • Can remain in kokedama form for 10–14 months before rewrapping or refreshing.

🌱 When to Refresh or Repot

Rewrap or repot when:

  • The moss ball dries out unevenly or feels firm and root-bound.
  • Roots begin circling through the outer moss layer.
  • Growth slows significantly despite good care.

If repotting, use a light, airy mix with coco coir, orchid bark, and perlite for ideal drainage.

💫 Fun Fact

The Snow Queen is often confused with Marble Queen💫but she’s brighter, whiter, and grows more slowly. Her luminous foliage makes her a collector’s favorite and a perfect match for minimal or modern décor.
